Haven Hospice Website - Case Study
Haven Hospice is an award-winning hospice and palliative care organization that has been serving North Florida since 1979 and has been licensed as a community-based, not-for-profit hospice since 1980. Since its inception, Haven Hospice has served nearly 40,000 patients and their families throughout the sixteen counties of North Florida. Hospice is a special concept of care designed to provide comfort and support to patients and their families when a life-limiting illness no longer responds to cure-oriented treatments.
Haven Hospice was seeking out a firm to help them to develop an online identity that would bring more awareness to their facility locations and the type of care they offered in North Florida. They also wanted to develop a Search Engine Optimization campaign to help with them gain more online visibility when a patient or other health care institute was seeking information about hospice care in North Florida.
In addition to an online identity strategy, Haven Hospice wanted to also offer online services for their visitors to help with communications. Part of this effort was to offer a 24/7 online assistance chat application that would tie into their central location where an administration staff member is always available to answer any questions immediately through online chat. Another online application was for visitors to the site to be able to make online donations through the web site securely.
Solution:
During the RFP process we took the time to research and evaluate different hospice sites across the US and also the online applications available through these different sites. This helped us to develop a response to the RFP that would not only answer each of the areas of concern but also through our extensive research we were able to offer additional ideas and methodologies that would help with the new online initiatives.
Once selected for the project we began to develop a partnership approach with Haven Hospice to become not only a vendor but an extension of their organization so we could gain more insight into the exact nature of their services.
We developed an extensive overview document and site map to ensure we had the correct information in place before beginning the design process.
What we did :
- Created 3 unique design concepts for client to review. The client selected two concepts that incorporated design elements that they were most comfortable with. Through this feedback we developed a 4th concept that was the one that would be approved and become the new home page for Haven Hospice.
- Researched and developed a keyword strategy for the natural SEO treatment to be applied to the site. We worked closely with the client to gain more information on the types of search terms that would be most commonly used through the major search engines and applied these to the initial Search Engine Optimization treatment to the site.
- Developed a custom chat application that would be able to be used at any terminal within the Haven Hospice facility through an online login appy. This would allow for the chat to be used at different stations throughout the facility and offered redundancy so that someone would always be able to answer an online chat request from multiple locations.
- Created an online donation page and placed this behind a secure html page. This would enable the user to input credit card information securely and then notify an administrator at Haven Hospice, whom would then login to a secure site to retrieve the user’s donation information.
- Added an online form to be used by health care providers to refer patients to Haven Hospice. This form was developed through interviews with the care providers at Haven Hospice on the information that would need to be captured on a patient referral.
- Built the site in a 1024 X 768 template so contain all of the information and navigation without it being over crowded in appearance on the home page. This allowed for a very user friendly experience.
- Incorporated a flash header on the home page to create a positive and warm feeling for the visitor to the site. This was developed using images provided by the client and creating movement to the image with text overlaying that communicated their different tag lines.
- Site was developed so that visitors have the option of clicking a button to make the text easier to read by making it larger.
- We sent out our photographer to produce interior and exterior 360 virtual tours at all six of their locations. The photos were then placed with a map of Florida so viewers can explore the locations they are most interested in 24/7 from the comfort of their home.
Conclusion:
After the initial launch of the site the client had an increase in visitors and also received 3 online donations, 2 referrals from health care providers and 2 online chat request. This was all realized within the first 3 days of the new site launch.
